Kat comes from a long line of nurturing caregivers. Her Grandmother, great-grandmother and great, great-grandmother were all foster parents and adopted children into their homes along with having their own children. She can remember changing and feeding babies at the age of 8 and has always felt a deep connection with children. In the spring of 2017 she decided to take a birth doula course through Sierra Childbirth here in Grass Valley, CA. It was like a light bulb turned on for her. She knew from that moment on that she wanted to be involved in caring for families and children as they transitioned during this very important, monumental and life-changing time in their lives. Right around the time she took the birth doula course two of her very good friends were due to birth their children and had asked for her to be there to assist and witness. She was thrilled and on March 20th and April 18th 2017 she was present for two very different birthing experiences. Following the births she decided to take a postpartum workshop at the Nest called Seven Sisters. She took a little break during the summer and winter of 2017 and in March of 2018 she attended a course on breastfeeding management for the birth professional through Sierra Childbirth institute. Although assisting with births is a passion of hers, she was realizing that postpartum work was even more of a need in the community and I decided to put more of her focus on the after-care also known as the fourth trimester.

When she is not spending time helping families gently adjust to parenthood, she cares for an 11 month old little girl and a 20-month-old little girl a few days a week at their homes. She also lives and works at First Rain Farm in Nevada City where she milks Nubian dairy goats 2 mornings a week and helps with veggie harvest and other tasks around the farm. You may also find her working for the farm this summer at the Nevada City farmers market on Saturdays. Kat is also a passionate self-taught herbalist with some formal training as well. She loves to wild-craft using fresh, wild and local plants and make medicine, natural beauty and home products for family and friends. She hopes to someday create an herbal line focusing on mamas and babies and to teach parents about herbal practices that they can use and make at home themselves and about the overall benefits of plant medicine for themselves and their families.

“I look forward to meeting you and your family with non-judgmental, grounded and caring support. I am able to help with whatever tasks are within my means from house cleaning, managing guests, breastfeeding support, emotional support, meal preparation and planning and local resources when it comes to you and your family. Whether this is your first or fourth child, the weeks after childbirth can be overwhelming and I’m excited to help you shed the stress so you can spend more time with your precious family”.
