The Birth of Our Midwifery Practice

As the days become longer and lighter and our sweet little mountain town begins to buzz with the promise of new life, new blossoms and fresh green growth, it feels hopeful, renewing and filled with the promises of spring. New buds at the tips of bare tree branches, fresh green stalks pushing their heads through the still cold, brown earth all announcing warmer days ahead filled with warm sunshine, beautiful colors and the delight of springtime fragrances. Spring is a time of new beginnings and excitement seems to be felt in the very air around us!

At the brink of this exciting time in the year Beth Laskin, LM, CPM and Leah Paperno, LM, CPM are thrilled to announce the blossoming of Nevada County’s newest homebirth midwifery practice, Birth Awake! Beth recently found home in these beautiful foothills after living and working as a midwife overseas and Leah has been establishing her roots here with her husband and young child for the past three and a half years. Both Leah and Beth are passionate about providing excellent midwifery care for women and families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We are tremendously grateful to have come together as a team to best serve this community. Beth brings with a wealth of experience from working in various countries and cultures including the United States. Leah brings the experience of nearly four hundred births, thousands of prenatal and postpartum appointments and years of experience working with an underserved population on the border of El Paso, Tx and Juarez, Mexico. Together, Beth and Leah create a cohesive team ready and able to provide growing and birthing families with compassionate, excellent and skilled midwifery care. Birth Awake trusts birth, is guided by the wisdom of the birthing mother and family, and recognizes babies as intelligent and integral beings throughout the process.
